Hoe gebruik je een houten viltnaaldhouder?
If you needle felt regularly, you have surely seen them before: wooden needle felting handles. This tool is used to insert and hold a felting needle. Not everyone uses them—I don't always use them myself—but I regularly get questions about them. In this blog, I explain how such a handle works and how you insert your felting needle into it.
How does a wooden needle felting handle work?
A wooden needle felting handle is a small grip in which you secure a felting needle. This can be useful if you like working with a thicker grip or if you frequently switch between different needles.
How to insert a needle into the handle:
- Slide the small wooden pin out of the handle.
- Place the needle with the narrow end into the slot.
- Slide the pin back in so that the needle is firmly secured.
Changing needles is quite fast with this handle. A small detail is that the needle is not exactly in the center of the handle, but in practice, you hardly notice that.

Do you need a needle felting handle?
That depends on your personal preference. Many needle felters simply work with the loose needle, but if you find that you prefer a slightly wider grip, such a handle can be a useful addition.
